MOOD Lounge CLOSED by DC Government for 96 hours

Big beautiful orange Notice of Closure signs are on each of the MOOD Lounge's front doors today announcing that it has been closed by DC Government for 96 hours. This means MOOD will miss all three nights of the long New Year's weekend, and with it some of the most profitable hours of operation for bars for months, as a result of last night's double stabbing.

The signs read:

Notice is hereby given that the Chief of Police, pursuant to her authority under the Emergency Suspension of Liquor Licenses Act of 2005 (DC Law 16-20; DC Official Code 25-287) hereby closes this establishment effective at: 6:00pm 12/30/11 for a period not to exceed 96 hours, subject to a hearing and disposition by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
The Chief of Police finds that continued operation of this establishment would present imminent danger to the health, safety, and welfare of the public; that there is additional imminent danger to the health, safety, and welfare of the public by not closing this establishment; and that there is no immediately available measure to ameliorate these findings.
Cathy Lanier
Chief of Police

Perhaps this is a sign of progress by the District in dealing swiftly with nuisance bars and nightclubs?
